If a spouse is having problems financially in Austin while caring for a loved one living with Alzheimer’s, he or she may not be able to provide the necessary care for their loved one. Though they may be reluctant to accept financial donations, you must ensure that your loved one with Alzheimer’s is fully taken care of.
Speak to doctors and offer to pay for doctor’s visits and prescriptions up front so that when a spouse goes to get them, they need not pay themselves. Several arrangements can be worked out so that this is done in private and a spouse can be told that his or her insurance covers the cost.
The key to keeping a spouse happy is to let them know they are independent and that the things you’re doing aren’t “help” but ways for you to keep in touch with your family. Instead of cooking meals for your loved ones, make it seem as though you’re there to eat with them and have the spouse help out. It’s important that he or she feels like a contributing member of the family, as they are, so that they don’t become depressed or ashamed of all the help they are receiving.
The spouse of an Alzheimer’s patient is often overlooked, but they tend to need as much care as attention as their significant other. To ensure dignity and the highest quality of life, respect their opinions, freedom and independence. They are most likely going through a hard enough time with their loved one being ill without feeling as though they’ve lost control over their own lives.
